The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute was established by the Government of India on February 3rd 1947 under the Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare and later joined the ICAR family in 1967. For more than 74 years the Center has emerged as the best. A research center for tropical marine fisheries worldwide.
Since its inception, CMFRI has grown exponentially in its size and shape and built adequate research infrastructure and recruited trained staff. During the first half of its existence, CMFRI devoted its research to the estimates of the arrival of marine fisheries and effort, marine living resources .
